How to request banners

How internal entities seek permission to place a free-standing, exterior building, or interior BANNER at the BLACKSBURG CAMPUS:

Follow these steps in this order:

  1. Before you spend any funds on the production of a banner, contact vtbrand@vt.edu with the design for your requested banners, desired display dates, and desired locations. Include a map or some illustration of where you want the banner to appear. Contacting vtbrand@vt.edu will be your one stop for Communications and Marketing approval, including Licensing and Trademarks. All banners containing university trademarks must be produced by a licensed vendor. All expenses related to the design and production of banners is the responsibility of the requestor.
  2. For exterior banners on Squires Student Center, G. Burke Johnston Student Center, War Memorial Hall, Litton-Reaves Hall, Derring Hall, Pamplin Hall, and Burruss Hall, forward Communications and Marketing approval email to Student Engagement and Campus Life Event Services at eventservices@vt.edu.
    For any other location, forward the Communications and Marketing approval email to the Assistant Vice President for Planning and University Architect at lizamorris@vt.edu. In your email to the Assistant Vice President for Planning and University Architect, include the specifics approved by Communications and Marketing, as well as information about size, material, and how you propose to affix or attach the banner.
  3. After these approvals are received, requestor will forward those approvals along with approved locations, dates, department name, and funding details to Facilities at vtrepair@vt.edu, copying vtbrand@vt.edu, and arrange installation and removal. Facilities will charge to the requestor for installation and removal.

How internal entities seek permission to place a free-standing, exterior building, or interior BANNER at UNIVERSITY LOCATIONS OUTSIDE OF BLACKSBURG:

Follow these steps in this order:

  1. Before you spend any funds on the production of a banner, contact Real Estate Management, Off-site Facilities Coordinator at bstandford@vt.edu. This office will know what permissions will be required from landlords for rental properties and any particulars for university-owned properties. This office will know if municipality permission must also be sought.
  2. Forward Real Estate Management approval to vtbrand@vt.edu with the design for your requested banners, desired display dates, and desired locations. Include a map or some illustration of where you want the banner to appear. Contacting vtbrand@vt.edu will be your one stop for Communications and Marketing approval, including Licensing and Trademarks. All banners containing university trademarks must be produced by a licensed vendor.
  3. Forward the Communications and Marketing approval email to the Assistant Vice President for Planning and University Architect at lizamorris@vt.edu. In your email to the Assistant Vice President for Planning and University Architect, include the specifics approved by Communications and Marketing, as well as information about size, material, and how you propose to affix or attach the banner.
  4. After all these approvals are secured, follow proper procurement procedures to have your banner made by a licensed vendor.

How internal entities seek permission to place LIGHT POST BANNERS at the Blacksburg campus:

Follow these steps in this order:

Before you spend any funds on the production of a light post banner, contact vtbrand@vt.edu with the design for your requested banners, desired display dates, and desired locations. Light post banners locations are:

  • West Campus Drive from Prices Fork Road to McComas Roundabout (Map #1)
    Pole type: 30’ Cobra
    Banner type: 2’x5’ banner (sign type BN.1) with current branding focus
  • Duck Pond Drive from Washington Street to Southgate Roundabout (Map #2)
    Pole type: 30’ Cobra Light
    Banner type: 2’x5’ banner (sign type BN.1) with Veterinary Medicine focus
  • Southgate Drive from CDC Roundabout to Duck Pond Drive Roundabout (Map #3)
    Pole type: 30’ Cobra Light
    Banner type: 2’x5’ banner (sign type BN.1) with general university focus
  • Southgate Drive from Duck Pond Drive Roundabout to VT Property line approaching residential neighborhood (Map #4)
    Pole type: 30’ Cobra Light
    Banner type: 2’x5’ banner (sign type BN.1) with Athletics focus
  • Beamer Way from Southgate Drive to Washington Street (Map #5)
    Pole type: 30’ Cobra Light & Hokie Light

  1. Contacting vtbrand@vt.edu will be your one stop for University Relations approval, including Licensing and Trademarks. All banners containing university trademarks must be produced by a licensed vendor. All expenses related to the design and production of banners is the responsibility of the requestor. Length of time typically will not exceed one academic year and will be based on overall reservation schedule.
  2. University Relations will next seek the approval directly from the Office of University Planning for the siting of all light post banners for the requestor.
  3. After these approvals are received, requestor will forward those approvals along with approved locations, dates, department name, and funding details to Facilities at vtrepair@vt.edu, copying vtbrand@vt.edu, and arrange for installation and removal. Facilities will charge to the requestor for installation, removal, and in some cases also hardware rental.
